March of the Robots

Nursery children at Berry Brow School had a surprise visitor in their classroom when they came into school on Monday morning. …. an eight foot tall, patterned cardboard robot had appeared!  The Robot that loomed over the children was soon named the 'Robot Rosie', and the chicken she held 'Lily'.

Artist Fabric Lenny had created the robot as inspiration to kick start the ‘March of the Robots’ project that is part of the ‘Nurturing Families’ initiative funded by Big Lottery.  A series of family workshops followed; parents and grandparent came into school to work alongside their children to make individual robots.  The family made robots were also made out of cardboard and were decorated in colours and patterns similar to Rosie’s using bold colours and marks made with Posca pens.

Fabric Lenny spent five days leading a range of exciting of robot themed art workshops where the children created small scale drawings and large paintings on canvas. These are now displayed around the school.... there are even a few cardboard chickens to be found too.
